To change the default password on a Thomson 585v7, SpeedTouch 516v7 or SpeedTouch 510v6, follow these simple steps:

First of all you need to open a web browser (the picture below shows Internet Explorer) and enter 192.168.1.254 in the address bar.
If you already have a password set then you'll be asked for it here, otherwise you'll be taken to the router configuration page.

On the left hand side there is a list of options, select Toolbox as shown in the image below.

From here you need to click the links for User Management and then Change password.

You'll be asked to enter the Old password and your New Password.
If you haven't previously changed the password, leave the Old Password box blank.
Click Change Password and you'll see a box asking for a User Name and Password. Enter the following details and click OK:
- User Name: Administrator (Note the capital A)
- Password: The password you've just set
Once you've done this, you'll be back at the User Management screen from step 3. To finish, close your web browser.
The next time you browse to 192.168.1.254 you'll be asked for your username and new password. You'll need to enter Administrator as the username.
- If you ever visit a webpage and you're unexpectedly asked to enter your username and password, don't do it. Only ever do this if you are logging into 192.168.1.254 yourself
- If your browser ever asks if you want it to save your router's admin password, we strongly recommend that you do not do this as it reduces its effectiveness against attack
