Gradwell
Gradwell are a UK based VoIP provider who have provided and maintained our Broadband Phone service since May 1st 2008.
Lo-call and geographic numbers
Lo-call and geographic numbers allow people to call your Broadband Phone line from any UK landline or mobile. Customers prior to May 1st 2008 were assigned lo-call 0845 numbers. Customers signing up after May 1st 2008 will be assigned a geographic number (starting 01 or 02).
PSTN
PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) is the technology traditionally used for making landline and mobile telephone calls.SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
Session Initiation Protocol allows computers to make phone calls to one another.Applications that support SIP, such as X-Lite, use the protocol to talk to your broadband modem/router, which in turn connects your call.
SIP Address
A SIP Address is also unique. It is comparable to an email address and can be used to call you from another SIP phone. An example SIP Address would be: 200400@sip.plus.net where 200400 is your SIP ID .SIP ID
A SIP ID is a unique number used to call you from another SIP phone. It works much like a regular phone number. An example SIP ID would be: 200400.
SJPhone
SJPhone is the recommended softphone for use with our new Broadband Phone service.
Softphone
A softphone is an application that allows you to make and receive phone calls from your computer using speakers, a microphone, headset or webcam.
Common features include: phonebook, call history and conference calling
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)
VoIP is the name of the technology used to send digitised audio over the Internet - an alternative to traditional telephone services.VoIP can also be used to send data over PSTN networks, e.g. make phone calls to land lines and mobiles.
X-lite
X-lite is the softphone we recommended for use with our original Broadband Phone product (prior to May 1st 2008).
